Me and one of my co-workers were talking about the unfortunate crash of the plane, a Boeing 737, over in Greece. Apparently it lost cabin pressure and all the people on board froze to death. Besides the fact that this seems like a very unpleasant way to die, freezing to death at 35,000 feet, we were wondering what the effect would be on Boeing's stock. With both of us being from Detroit, we like to root for the American guys over the foreign ones, so we have been happy as of late that Boeing has been kicking the crap out of Airbus. We were wondering if this would effect future orders of Boeing's new planes, or just lower their stock?

So what do all of you out there in Joeuser land think? Is this going to be a crises for Boeing, or will they come out smelling like roses.

We also came up with an idea for a new marketing idea for Boeing in light of recent events. They should point out that despite the fact that everyone on board was frozen, the autopilot worked for an hour and a half, with no input from humans and sub-zero tempreatures. I mean talk about a triumph of American engineering!

Thoughts and comments?

"I mean talk about a triumph of American engineering!"

Triumph? It crashed into a hillside killing over 100 people!!! Surely a triumph would have been if it didn't crash?

Apparently the 737 has killed 787 people in the last 8 years, I saw on the news.

Scary.

Scary.

Cars kill around 50,000 a year. I would say Boeing has a much better record for a much more difficult task. Perspective... now that can be scary.

Follow up.. in point of fact passenger cars alone killed 6403 people last year. Statistics here.

"Perspective... now that can be scary."

There are far more cars on the road and besides, cars aren't generally driven by TRAINED professionals, for these two reasons you would expect more deaths.

Planes crash...you know? Airbus crashes. Boeing crashes. Pedestrians crash for heaven's sake. What are you gonna do about it?

Hank you think 50,000 fatalities a year for autos vice a few thousand (counting 9/11) a decade for aircraft is even close to comparable?

Jeez guys, it really was a joke about the triumph of American engineering thing..... Man i guess the people here do not have much of a sense of humor.
